He says: "The purpose of the OHA is to encourage social interaction amongst staff and pupils both past and present. We need to look to new forms of technology to support this interaction, whilst retaining our current methods of communication.  The OHA will continue to support the school financially as well as offering its resources, including the experience and expertise of our members, for the benefit of pupils and the School."  <br /><br /><p style="text-align:center;"><img class="imageStyle" alt="matth1" src="http://www.oldhulmeians.org/news/files/matth1-2.jpg" width="160" height="240" />                                      <img class="imageStyle" alt="matth2" src="http://www.oldhulmeians.org/news/files/matth2.jpg" width="160" height="240" /><br /><br /></p><p style="text-align:left;">Born in 1972, Matthew attended the William Hulme's from 1982 to 1990 (Dalton House), obtained a BSc in Rivers and Rocks at Sheffield University.  Involved in student houses in Sheffield, he then drifted into property in Manchester.  Matthew travelled the world and then lived in Manchester city centre for a decade.  Mediocrity and under-achievement followed in the field of Exhibitions.  Now out in Knutsford with Holly, his wife, and two children: Monty (two years) and Florence (two weeks).  Happy. Lacrosse star, a career high of being a former Treasurer of the OHA now the MD of restaurant chain 'Individual Restaurant Company' which include brands: Piccolinos, Restaurant Bar and Grill and Manchester bar Panacea. <br /><br />The dinner will be held on <strong>Saturday 2 June</strong> at William Hulme's Grammar School, Manchester. The principal guest and speaker at the dinner was distinguished old boy Robert Hough, chairman of the North West Regional Development Agency. Robert has an outstanding track record of local service. He is currently a director (and deputy chairman) of Peel Holdings and a governor of the University of Manchester, and was previously executive chairman of the Manchester Ship Canal Company, chairman and vice-president of the Manchester Commonwealth Games, a director of Manchester Business School, and also a former governor of WHGS. If you would like to help and can spare a little time then please contact Matthew Hargreaves at Matthew2ts@hotmail.com.]]></content:encoded></item><item><title>Access to WHGS archives</title><category>Volunteer</category><dc:date>2011-12-29T20:26:08+00:00</dc:date><link>http://www.oldhulmeians.org/news/files/1cbef46f3ffd589abf3c08b6e822798e-4.html#unique-entry-id-4</link><guid isPermaLink="true">http://www.oldhulmeians.org/news/files/1cbef46f3ffd589abf3c08b6e822798e-4.html#unique-entry-id-4</guid><content:encoded><![CDATA[Following a number of recent enquiries for information about former pupils, representatives from the OHA committee are working with the school to explore how we might make the WHGS archives available to OHA members.<br /><br />The school has kept a wide range of documents and materials dating back many years, including the following: copies of "The Hulmeian" annual magazine and the OHA newsletter for most years; card index of pupils (names, dates, headmaster's comments) dating back many years; register of teaching staff (1890s-1960s); register of absence for infectious diseases (1890s-1950s); a large number of assorted but uncatalogued photographs, plus a small number of photographic printing plates; press clippings about the school dating back to its opening; KP Thompson's history of the school; OHA committee meeting minutes (1913-86); Whitworth House archive (1970s-1990s); various shields, blazer and cap badges from the school and CCF; entrance exam results (1887-1903).<br /><br />We hope to make some of these materials available online, although this will not be suitable for all items. We elected a new President (Matthew Hargreaves), and a new committee (well, some new faces alongside a few older ones).
